Unwritten Appalachia is a storytelling project dedicated to the people, places, memories, folklore, and everyday life that make Appalachia what it is. Through conversations, photographs, local history, and personal stories, I want to preserve the voices that might otherwise go unheard.
Appalachia is complicated, beautiful, funny, resilient, strange, ordinary, and deeply human. This project isn’t about romanticizing the region or reducing it to stereotypes. It’s about listening to the people who actually live here and letting them tell their own stories.
Some stories may begin on a front porch. Others might come from an old photograph, a winding backroad, a family legend, a forgotten piece of local history, or someone simply saying, “You know, I’ve got a story about that.”
What Makes the Heart of Appalachia Beat?
Unwritten Appalachia preserves the stories, history, folklore, and everyday lives that make this place home.
